Detecting diseases caused by chromosomal anomalies in embryos before implanting them in woman's uterus is already a reality in brazilian assisted reproduction clinics. When an embryo has 3 days of life, one of its 8 cells is removed by aspiration. Analyzed in the laboratory by technique known as "Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization" (FISH), it is possible to detect if there are chromosomes with problems. The technique sould be routine for women age > 35 years |
