Method of depositing a multilayer barrier coating on plastic substrate in a previously evacuated chamber comprising - Selecting a curable comp. comprising: i) Polyfunctional acrylates - Flash vaporizing said comp. into said chamber - Condensing a first layer of a film of vaporized comp. onto outer surface of container - Curing said film - Vaporizing an organotin comp. & admixing the volatilized organotin comp. with an oxidizer comp. & opt. inert gas comp. to form a gas stream exterior to the chamber - Establishing a glow discharge plasma in the chamber from one or more of the gas stream comp. - Controllably flowing the gas stream into the plasma while confining at least a portion of the plasma therein - Depositing a layer of tin oxide adjacent said first layer - Vaporizing an organosilicon comp. & admixing the volatili zed organosilicon comp. with an oxidizer comp. to form a gas stream exterior to the chamber - Establishing a glow discharge plasma in the chamber from from gas stream comp - Controllably flowing gas stream into the plasma while confi ning at least portion of plasma therein - Depositing a third layer of Si oxide adjacent second layer - Dip coating a fourth layer of PVDC onto third layer |
