PATENT CLAIMS Method for the work-up of reaction mixt. present as a microemulsion at 0 - 100C & formed in the O-alkylation of phenols by an alkyl halide in presence of NaOH, said phenols being present during O-alkylation as an aq. soln & alkyl halide being present as water-immiscible soln in an organic solvent, said alkylation taking place in the presence of a nonionic surfactant & said reaction mixt. contg. in addition to said surfactant a first reaction prodt which is soluble in water & second reaction prodt which is insoluble in water & soluble in organic solvent, said microemulsion being able to be present in coexistence with said aq. & said organic soln. wherein reaction mixt.
- Is subjected to T decrease by 20 - 50K & by this means an
aq. phase having high surfactant content & surfactant-free
organic phase are obtained
- The organic phase contg said second reaction prodt is se
parated off & is replaced by additional organic soln of alkyl
halide
- Resultant reaction mixt is subjected to T increase by 10 - 80
K whereupon surfactant free aq. phase & organic phase with
high surfactant content are obtained
- The surfactant free aq. phase contg first reaction prodt., is
separated off & replaced by additional aq. soln. of said phe
nols, thereby reforming original reaction mixt. of phenols &
alkyl halide, the O-alkylation is repeated & the foregoing
work-up process is repeated
