PATENT CLAIMS Hydrocarbon alkylation process using a catalytic mixt contg a HF-agent complex, wherein the complex is formed from complexing agent contg Lewis base site contg Group 5A element & producing an acid soluble oil (ASO) by-prodt, wherein ASO is rejected from the process & the HF-agent complex is recovered & recycled to alkylation zone
- Alkylating a hydrocarbon substrate with a hydrocarbon
alkylation agent in the presence of HF & HF-agent complex
in alkylation zone & producing reactor effluent stream contg
alkylate & ASO
- Separating the effluent stream into an acid effluent stream
contg ASO, HF, & HF-agent complex & hydrocarbon
effluent stream contg alkylate
- Forming by-prodt stream from portion of acid effluent stream
wherein by-prodt stream contains ASO, HF, & HF-agent
complex & by-prodt stream has molar ratio of HF per Lewis
base site > 5:1
- Selectively removing portion of HF & ASO from by-prodt
stream to produce HF-enriched stream contg HF & ASO
& an HF-depleted stream, wherein said depleted stream
contains ASO, HF & complex & has HF/Lewis base = 3:1-
5:1
- Sepn HF-depleted stream into hydrocarbon phase
enriched in ASO & an acid phase depleted in ASO &
contg complex
- Passing portion of hydrocarbon effluent stream & portion
of HF-enriched stream to a fractionation zone & recovering
from said zone a recycle stream contg HF & prodt stream
contg alkylate & ASO
- Recycling portion of acid phase & portion of recycle
stream to alkylation zone
- Rejecting the hydrocarbon phase from the process
