To ease sepn of expensive catalysts in homogeneous catalysis; biphasic systems have been used. But biphasic systems show slow rates The researchers investigated the hydrogenation of alkenes catalyzed by water-soluble phosphine Rh complexes in biphasic system: Supercritical CO2/Water Surfactant emulsion The rates are comparable with single-phase reactions in organic solvents using Wilkinson's catalyst. The reactions are run at 40C & 4,000 psi. Simply reducing the pressure at end of reaction breaks the emulsion |
