Method for determn standard bioactivity for saw palmetto extract - Obtaining sample of alc. saw palmetto extract - Measuring total bioactivity by determn an IC50 in androgen receptor binding inhibition assay - Measuring total fatty acid content of an aliquot of whole sample - Fractionating sample & collecting individual fractions - Measuring fatty acid content of each fraction - Identifying the fractions contg Et linoleate & Et laurate - Measuring bioactivity for each of the fractions identified in step above - Calculating % activity of each of the fractions for which an drogen receptor binding inhibition has been assayed com pared to total bioactivity of sample, wherein the MW & amount of the individual fatty acids identified are incorpora ted into the calculating & - Determining that if the total bioactivity of the sample is > selected minimum standard amount, & if the total % activity pf the Et linoleate & Et laurate fractions is > 25% of total bioactivity, then the saw palmetto extract has standard bioactivity |
