of SOD Mimic called M40403. Complex between MnCl2 & Macrocycle formed by - Pyridine-2,6-Di-CH2-* - *-NH-C6H10-NH-(CH2)2-NH-C6H10-NH-* * = Points of junction of macrocycle |
MECHANISM OF ACTION |
Superoxide anion is involved in several pathological conditions such as - Inflammatory diseases - Regulation of cytokine release - Reperfusion injury - which sometimes follows stroke or heart attack & - Rheumatoid arthritis SOD catalyzes the oxidoreductive conversion of superoxide anion to O2 & H2O2. Native SOD has shown clinical efficacy against above diseases. Bovine SOD (orgotein) has been commercially available for some time; however it caused adverse immune responses & has been withdrawn. The so far searched small mole. mimics did not interact exclusively with superoxide anion The now developed mimic acts uniquely on superoxide |
