OBSERVATION'S |
The compd binds to the dopamine receptor believed to be involved in the reinforcing effects of cocaine, which are caused by the excess dopamine the drug makes available. Unlike dopamine, BP 897 does not have a reinforcing effect. The team trained rats to self-administer cocaine in the presence of a stimulus: Cocaine came on tap to the lever-pressing rats only after they were exposed for several minutes to a particular light. As a result, the rats came to associate the light with cocaine. When treated with BP 897, though, they no longer responded to the light cue & lost interest in the drug
